A roller is just a roller, right?

Here’s a better question: which painting applicator helps you cover 80% or more of any project? At The Wooster Brush Company, we believe rollers are every bit as important as brushes—and what’s more, every bit as innovative.

Finding the right Wooster roller cover

For smoother lint-free results with all paints, use a woven roller fabric—especially with higher-sheen coatings. For greater pickup and release (faster application), try a knitted fabric when using flats or eggshell paints.

(Or nap.) Quite simply, for rough surfaces, use a longer pile (1/2–3/4”). For smooth surfaces, use a shorter pile (3/16–3/8”), or even a microfiber for a glass-like appearance.

Different fabrics offer different advantages: pickup (greater capacity), controlled release, durability, surface uniformity, and cleanup. What’s most important to you?

Our labs are continually innovating with suppliers to create new fabrics and fiber layouts—solving today’s toughest painting challenges and becoming tomorrow’s industry standards. Ready to get rolling?

Not all fibers are created equal. With roller covers, like any textile item, the quality level of the chosen fiber ends up dictating the richness of the fabric being produced. Wooster works closely with our fabric suppliers to choose and then modify fibers to ensure that they hold and release coatings better than competitive covers.

Made at our headquarters in Ohio, Wooster rollers covers are closely monitored for consistent quality. Our professional rollers are manufactured on a 2-ply polypropylene core that resists water, solvents, and cracking.

The multiple steps to finishing a roller cover include: fluffing up fibers, trimming off excess, beveling the ends, and vacuuming loose fibers. How well these processes are completed can dictate how well a cover paints. Inferior fabrics, those with lower-quality fibers, can be damaged during professional-level finishing process. We take pride in the exceptional performance results of our unique fabrics and proprietary finishing methods.

Our rollers have a long history of excellence.

The Wooster Brush Company was established in 1851 and is one of the oldest manufacturers of paint applicators in the USA. Our company founder Adam Foss traveled from Pennsylvania to Ohio to set up shop in Wooster, Ohio the same city of our company headquarters today.

Although the first roller covers were manufactured in Europe in the 1940s, Wooster was the first company to introduce synthetic fabrics for roller covers—now an industry standard. Wooster was also the first company to produce standard core and minirollers using matching fabrics for consistent finishes throughout a project.

Wooster has continued this tradition of ground-breaking development and today is known as the top applicator innovator. Some of the most popular brands of painting equipment on the market are made by The Wooster Brush Company. Each year, we design more new products than any other high-quality applicator manufacturer.
